Abstract: The present research had as objective to analyze the economic situation of the production,
commercialization and profitability of the corn crop (Zea mays L.) during the winter season, in
the Valencia canton, province of Los Rios. The work began with a description of the situation of
peasants engaged in maize production, through the application of surveys of 65 producers, a
sample obtained from a population of 561 farmers. The analysis of results determined the
importance of this activity in the economy of 44.61% of families, in addition to the existence of a
semi-technified management in the production, regarding the costs of the crop, these amount to $
1,235.80 in the case of small producers with the management of technological packages
encouraged by the government, $ 1,493.42 small farmers who did not access technological
packages containing high yield seeds and some inputs such as soil fertilizers, 1,648.81 for
medium producers and $ 1,752.24 for large producers; As an indicator of profitability, the Profit
/ Cost ratio showed that the profit obtained is satisfactory in relation to the investment made,
with yields of 70%, 106%, 66% and 65% respectively. Clearly demonstrating the contribution of
technological packages of high performance for the increase of profitability. |
