Abstract:
The people of India have been greatly troubled by the rise in prices of the commodities in the recent past. The inflation has been a source of concern over the past few years due to the increase in the prices of essential commodities affecting the lives of common man. The rise in the prices of commodities, especially of food and fuel, are adding to the economic woes of low income families. Besides, the fall in the value of money is increasing the level of poverty in the country. This paper provides insights into the inflationary situation witnessed in India during the eleventh five year plan period i.e. 2007-12. It examines the reasons behind the phenomenon of inflation and describes the various measures taken by RBI to control the rising inflationary trend in the country.
