Abstract: In a developing country like India characterize by large population, high rate of unemployment and even under employment, small business play an important role not only in contributing to nation GDP but also by providing employment to large number of people. After identifying the importance of small scale sector & analyzing their contribution in GDP government launched MUDRA Yojana on April 8, 2015. Pradhan Mantri Mudra Yojana (PMMY) was launched basically to provide financial assistance to micro enterprises & Non- corporate Small Business Sector (NCSBS). This paper is an attempt to know the contribution of MSME's sector in the Indian Economy, Overview of Pradhan Mantri Mudra Yojana & why PMMY was launched by the Indian government when similar schemes for availing credit is already existing & the performance evaluation of MUDRA Yojana for the financial year 2015-16 & 2016-17.
