Abstract:
The paper aims to study the performance of financial markets of different developed countries vis-a-vis Indian financial market in the post-liberalization period. This study highlights the extent of integration of the domestic financial market with the global ones. We find that the returns on stocks enlisted in BSE have high, positive correlation with the same on other stock markets. While the risk and (mean) return on stocks of NYSE are on the lower side, those for stocks on BSE are on the higher side. We feel that this fact has implications from the policy perspectives as higher risk would discourage capital flow in the long run.
