Abstract: This paper is mainly focused on to analyze the causal relationship between the electricity and
economic growth. The theoretical aspects and also empirical studies have discussed here.OLS
regression analysis has been used. The secondary data have been analyzed. The relationship
between the private thermal power generation and the GDP firstly discussed on the theoretical
background and after that we have tried to explain the relationship in the Indian context. In
electricity there are many segments, but we are mainly focused on thermal power because of it's
larger share in total electricity generation. We have tried to focus on private sector thermal power
generation due to the reason share of the private generation growing rapidly. Lastly, we find that
there is strong positive relation between the thermal power generation and the economic growth
rate of Indian economy.
